Editorial policy

Everything important on this site traces to a source, a dated observation, or a published study. Where none of those exist, we say so instead of guessing.

Evidence labels

  • Documented by vendor — an official vendor fact. Vendor documentation is evidence of what the vendor says, not independent validation.
  • Observed in our audit — something we checked ourselves, with the date and region of the check.
  • Measured in this study — numbers from our own published protocol, with denominators and exclusions.
  • Editorial interpretation — our reasoning across sources, with the limits named.
  • Not independently tested — appears wherever performance evidence is missing. That is most performance claims on the internet.
  • Outdated or withdrawn — evidence changed; the old recommendation no longer stands.

Review and publication

Content that could cause harm if wrong (anything describing actions on failing hardware) is technically reviewed for the exact revision published, by a reviewer whose relevant qualification is recorded internally. Lower-risk factual pages may be published by the editor without independent review; those pages do not claim any independent technical review. If we ever cannot meet this bar, the page stays a draft.

AI assistance

We may use language-model tools to help draft or summarise text against approved sources. Every such draft is treated as untrusted: claims are checked against the named sources, and anything unsupported is removed or marked. We disclose substantive AI drafting here and on affected pages when it occurs. No AI system publishes anything on its own, and no AI system writes our tool’s answers: those come from a fixed, reviewed rule set.

Commercial rules

Commission rates and programme status are never inputs to our tool, our comparisons, or our editorial order. Programmes we have not applied to and been approved by are described as what they are: candidates. We mark fully-commercial articles as advertising in the title treatment, not just the footer.

Corrections

Anyone can report an error without an account. Safety reports are handled first. Verified fixes get a public note describing what changed. If a claim can’t be supported any more, the page changes or comes down, and the reason stays visible.

Impartiality statement

Editorial independence here means the decision rules above, not the absence of affiliate income. We do earn commissions on some purchases. If we ever cannot recommend anything suitable, we recommend nothing rather than inventing a pick.
